Went to Breadsmith last week and bought a loaf of bread, an oatmeal cookie and a jar of Lemon Curd. First, the bread was good, but after 3-4 days it started getting mold on it. Second, the oatmeal cookie was raw. Third, the lemon curd had spoiled. Luckily, I kept my receipt and was able to return it for the full amount. Their bread is good, but overpriced, loaves of sweet bread are small and spoils easily. Not a fan, sorry!

A so-so selection but the coffee cake was OK. Each time I've been there I've been extremely put off by the help. Today I was "waited on" by a surly teenager wearing his baseball cap backward and having nothing to say except mumble, "Have a good day." In short, he acted as though he was doing me a favor by handing me the bag with the coffee cake in it. Jobs aren't easy for teenagers to find, even in Grosse Pointe, and this place could do better.

Love the pumpkin bread from here and can never go wrong with the honey wheat. Its nice to be able to have fresh homemade bread in the city with a nice rustic touch. I also have seen there bread sold at local Krogers this is nice so u can pick it up on ur local shopping trip.

This place is amazing! Everything you'd want in a quality top shelf bread shop! I highly recommend the cinnamon swirl, honey white, or the pumpkin loaf!

I love good, substantial bread and they have what I like here. My fave is the multigrain, dense with embedded bits of tasty. The pecan crunch (crack) granola is too good, soft and sweet, sinfully good on ice cream or alone. I find my way in here whenever I'm nearby.

I've been buying their bakery products since they opened and have always thought the quality of their bread was good until the last six months or so. (Their other products such as cookies and other sweets have always been sub par.) Instead of being honest and upfront and just increasing their prices, they thought they could dupe all their longtime customers by shrinking the size of their bread. Seriously, the loaves are miniature now. It's insulting and disappointing. I would have gladly paid more rather than be swindled in this manner. People running small businesses should treat their customers with more respect than this. They've lost my business.

I would give these guys no stars if Yelp allowed it. Bread is dry and flavorless. There are WAY better bakeries all around metro Detroit. Try Avalon, Bommarito's or Ventimiglia's, they all blow this sorry excuse for a bakery out of the water. Hell, even the bread from Kroger is better than anything I've seen Breadsmith do.

This is the kind of place I wish was in my town. Yeah, I know, Hamtramck has more than its fair share of bakeries but, Breadsmith offers such a variety of fresh baked European-style breads that none of the local bakeries can come close to matching. When you first walk into their clean and simple store, your nose begins to seek out the differing sweet aromas. What you see is everything is presented in a pleasing and sensible fashion. The lady behind the counter is friendly and helps by guiding the uninitiated. She is also quick with a freshly cut free sample of any of their breads. As you look behind the counter, on your left is their standard varieties of breads and on your right is their limited time offerings. Each bread comes either as a crusty, free-formed circular loaf or as a rectangular one prepared in a loaf pan. Aside from their breads, they also offer cookies, muffins and sweets. The whole grain with sesame seeds loaf pan bread that wasn't part of their usual fair was the one I took home. And even though it was pre-sliced and had to sit in my car while I ran errands for most of the day, it still was moist and delicious when I had it that evening at home. A word of caution, they don't use preservatives, but I doubt a loaf will sit around very long for it to be of any concern.

So look, I know it's a chain. And yes, all things being equal I would rather go to a local bakery and spend my money at a place like Bommarito's, etc. than some nameless, faceless corporation out of Delaware or Poughkeepsie or where ever. But here's the deal...their bread is mindbogglingly good...light years better than any local bakery I've found on the East side. The Cracked Black Pepper/Swiss is "slap your mama" ridiculous it's so good. That bread with roast beef, frieze, Dijon and red onions MIGHT be the best sandwich I've ever made...and trust me. I make a lot of sandwiches. Their pumpkin bread is stellar and their sourdough has just the right balance of crusty crust with a nice sour tang...and BTW, a perfect bread for Paninis!!! And who doesn't love a good panini and Tomato soup when it's 50 below out like today! So yes, if somebody locally would step up their game, I would gladly take my 2 loaf a week habit to your fine establishment and support the local economy, but until then you'll find me in the kitchen eating another sandwich made with that Cracked Black Pepper/Swiss bread and drooling to sandwich utopia!

Moving to the eastside has been an adjustment ... but it has also been a great opportunity to discover new things. One of the things that I have always wanted and now I have is a good bakery very close to my home. The Breadsmith makes an impressive variety of breads. I love their banana bread. I make a sweet one with nuts and chocolate chips but this one is different. It is sweet, but not too sweet. I have been having it with a smear of butter for breakfast - so delicious. The multigrain bread is pretty good - a little dry for my taste. The brioche was very nice. I can't wait to try other varieties. They have about 20 varieties baked fresh daily. They also have a sheet telling you the nutritional content (calories) of each product that they sell. My only complaint is that they are very expensive ($5-$6 for a loaf). Definately worth trying.

The very first time I visited my boyfriend's hometown, he took me to Breadsmith, which was this great little bakery that was just down the street from his house. Whenever he comes back home to Grosse Pointe, or when his parents come to visit us in DC, they always buy 1 or 2 loaves of Honey Wheat Bread. It's so delicious, it makes Pepperidge Farm look like a crack whore. Best of all, there is no high fructose corn syrup or preservatives in their bread. The downside is that it will mold very quickly, but most likely you will eat it all before that even happens.

This is a focused bakery. They make bread and they make it well. They have standard breads( honey white, multigrain, buttertop) and specialty breads according to holidays or season (challah, brioche, Irish soda bread) also sweet breads( banana, cranberry ) All of the breads I've had here are excellent. Believe me that is saying something. The rolls are sometimes off. The side sweets( cinnamon buns, brownies, lemon squares) are never as good as they look or smell. Stick to the loaves and slather them with butter and jam if you're craving something sweet. If you need bread for any reason get it here!

Best bread around, hands down. Unfortunately, it's a chain. Pricey for bread but hey, I love me some carbs and I don't mind too much paying $5 a loaf. The peasant bread is my favorite though.
